Welcome!
Welcome to my personal academic website. My name is Nabil Mirza; I am an information and communication security researcher. I hold a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the communication engineering department at Beirut Arab University - Lebanon. My graduate researches were obsessed by cryptography. My master's degree point of research was focused on the public key primitive, whereas my PhD point of research was centralized around the symmetric key cryptosystems.
Information communication security technology (ICT security) is a complex interdisciplinary. It needs expertise in many domains. When I first started to tackle the topic of cryptography in my master's degree, and having communication engineering as a background, I found myself chasing knowledge across many disciplines, mainly from computer science and mathematical departments. From that time, I realized how much the topic of cryptography is an interdisciplinary field and realized that boundaries between academic disciplines do not exist. Consequently, my master thesis was jointly supervised by both communication engineering department and the mathematical department at the university. Ensuingly, in my PhD, I delved in those grey interdisciplinary areas to find connections. That endeavor allowed me to amalgamate the characteristics of ciphers in cryptography and the characteristics of plaintext in natural language processing which lead me to my new finding: Error correction of noisy ciphers occurring in communication channels.
My interest in information and communication security (ICT security) first started in 1998. In 1994, and after I had graduated as communication and electronic engineer, I joined my family business in Customs clearing. Initially, my main responsibility was to assist our establishment to accommodate the digitization of our business transactions. In 1998, it was clear to me that the demand for information and communication security technology professionals will increase in public and private sectors. From that time, I started crafting my carrier as ICT security professional. This was done by first getting my master's degree and then my PhD degree in topics related to cryptography (the core of security primitives).
Currently, my main research interests are in information security and natural language processing. You may visit my interests page for more information. Feel free to explore the other pages and to contact me to discuss any of my interests. After all, this website aims to communicate with you, anyone who is interested in what I do. |
